We publish reference material, so errors matter and we treat them as defects, not embarrassments.
Reporting an error
Send the page URL and a description of the problem through the Contact page. If you can point to the manufacturer manual, service bulletin or agency document that contradicts us, please include it — it makes the correction faster and more accurate.
How we respond
- Factual error. The page is corrected and a dated correction note is added at the foot of the page describing what was wrong and what it now says.
- Unsupported claim. If we cannot find a source that supports a statement, the statement is removed or narrowed, even when we believe it is probably true.
- Safety-relevant error. The page is unpublished immediately while it is re-researched, rather than left online with a warning.
- Minor fixes. Typography, broken links and formatting are fixed silently.
What we do not do
We do not quietly rewrite a page to hide a substantive error, we do not backdate revisions, and we do not delete a page to avoid publishing a correction.
Withdrawn pages
A page removed from the site stops appearing in navigation, in related content and in the sitemap. We do not redirect a withdrawn page to an unrelated page to preserve traffic.
