Appliance Almanac is an independent consumer reference focused on understanding, maintaining and troubleshooting household appliances: refrigerators and freezers, dishwashers, washers, dryers, ovens and ranges, microwaves and garbage disposals.
What we are
A written reference library. Every page is researched from publicly available primary sources — manufacturer manuals and support documentation, published standards, and public-safety agencies such as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. When a page relies on a source, that source is named on the page.
What we are not
Appliance Almanac is not a repair service, not an appliance manufacturer, not a technician network, not a testing laboratory and not a certifying body. We do not sell, install, service or diagnose appliances, and we have no commercial relationship with the manufacturers discussed on this site.
We do not claim hands-on testing, field experience, professional certifications or manufacturer partnerships, because we have none.
How to use this site
Appliance behaviour, parts and service procedures vary by manufacturer, model and production year. Where our guidance and your appliance’s official manual or manufacturer documentation disagree, the official documentation prevails.
Some appliance work involves gas, refrigerant, mains voltage or sealed system components. For those areas we describe how to recognise the problem, which low-risk external checks are reasonable, when to stop, and when to call a qualified professional. We do not publish procedures that require bypassing a safety device or working inside energised or pressurised components.
